Excellent trip! well organised - sun gate tours were reliable, trustworthy, thoughtful (eg going through menu prior to departure: proper alternatives for the vegetarian in our group) and reasonably priced. guide maria (contact above) fun, friendly, knowledgeable, sensitive to the needs of the group and spoke excellent english. terrain varied - challenging but not too strenuous, interesting local communities. thoroughly enjoyable!. I would recommend both her and the trek highly.
February is not available for Inca trail because this trek is closed for maintenance.
The availability applies to the Inca Trail to machu picchu is the same to our Agency or Any Agency you choose, because the availability for Inca trail is the same for everybody.
If you see a large number of available spaces do not mean that you have a lot time available to book the Inca trail, because. Some agencies group their requests together and it is not unusual to see 80 spaces go away in only 10 minutes.
Peruvian National Institute of Culture is the organization to control the availability for Inca trail. Only they are able to manage and authorize the access to the Inca Trail every year.
The access to the Inca Trail is limited to 500 people per day, according to the resolution N° 02-2003-UGM-CD including the porters, cook and guides. For this reason, the available spaces for Inca trail corresponds 40 % for trekkers and 60% approximately is for the porters, cook ad guides.
According to the same regulations, reservations for Inca trail to Machu Picchu can only be made up for the current season (from March to January).
It is possible to pre-reserve the Trek by making first a 50% down payment and then paying the 50% balance when you arrive to Cusco, but the most important for the Inca trail is the availability.
It is not possible to make reservations less than 4 days before the departure of the Trek although there are available spaces. It says the regulations of the Peruvian National Institute of Culture
